Villa Rosa - Lanzarote

The www.villawithpool.co.uk website was originally developed in late 2002 to promote Villa Rosa - Lanzarote.  This is my own site promoting holiday rentals at our house, which sleeps six people in Lanzarote, Canary Islands.  This is our main method of promoting the villa and results in steady bookings throughout the year.  Over the years the site had minor styling changes and one major change to comply with HTML 4.01, CSS and WAI, although the content remained mostly as it was in 2002.  More recently the site was restyled in a fluid format in a similar manner to this Davy and Davy website, as described on our Accessible Websites page.

The website originally used a Javascript based availability information system but now incorporates a full PHP based availability and booking system including immediate online bookings using PayPal as the payment agency.

ALIP1 ADI100D TVPhone

The ALIP1 ADI100D TVPhone is an Assisted Living Innovation Platform Project run by a West Yorkshire based consortium led by Advanced Digital Instutute (ADI).  The consortium is developing innovative Tele-Health technology to provide affordable in-home two-way video technology for patient to clinician consultations and to supply health information.  The website provides information about the project and includes a Content Management based news and press release page.

The site uses XHTML 1.0 Strict with PHP and back end MySQL and conforms to WCAG 1.0 Level AAA and CSS 3.

The Dog and Gun Oxenhope

The Dog and Gun, Oxenhope is a traditional Yorkshire pub with cask ales, fine wine and superb food, nestled above the West Yorkshire village of Oxenhope.  The website is includes content magagement for a number of elements including 2 menu pages to cater for regular and seasonal menus.

Bar Scarlets, Matagorda, Lanzarote

Bar Scarlets, Matagorda, Lanzarote is a small establishment in Matagorda, Lanzarote renown for its genial atmosphere and good company.  This small website includes a Blog style section where friends of Scarlets can add comments and upload images of their holidays in the sun.

Mill Cottage Montessori School

Mill Cottage Montessori School is an independent school situated in Brighouse, West Yorkshire in the United Kingdom, housed in a Grade 2 listed building set in idyllic rural grounds within the historic Old Corn Mill complex, adjacent to the naturally beautiful banks of the River Calder.  It offer facilities for children aged 0 - 3 years old in the Infant Toddler Community, the Children's House caters for the 3 - 6 year olds, and the Elementary offers quality education for children from 6 years up to the age of 11.

Rawdon Ophthalmic Limited

Rawdon Ophthalmic Limited is a long established supplier of spectacle lenses, frames and services to opticians and the optical industry.  This website, built in late 2008 / early 2009, incorporates a comprehensive catalogue of lenses and other related products.  Opticians who have accounts with Rawdon Ophthalmic can place orders online by entering the prescription details.  The site is built using PHP and a back-end MySQL database, with a web based administration system allowing Rawdon Ophthalmic staff to maintain the product and registered user databases.

Medident Financial Planning Limited

Medident Financial Planning Limited, Independent Financial Advisers (IFAs) authorised by the Financial Services Authority (FSA), has a core business in providing specialist financial planning advice to doctors and dentists in the medical and dental professions, along with the provision of a personal quality financial advice service to people in other industries and professions.  This website was designed and built in early 2008.

Westfield Lodge Apartments

Westfield Lodge Apartments nestle amongst moody moorland high above the village of Haworth in West Yorkshire, United Kingdom, the world renowned spiritual home of the literary Brontë family.  This website, started in early 2008, includes a full embedded online live booking system for these 20 holiday apartments, using PHP and a back-end MySQL database.  There is a web based administration system including a small Content Management System for updating special offers and other seasonal content.

The holiday apartment business was a new venture for Westfield Lodge, originally providing different types of accommodation, and the company had an existing, older, website to support that original activity.  My services included included identifying the appropriate web space facilities required and assisting with the transfer of domain registrars and web space hosts.

DPA Consultants

DPA Human Resource Consultants provides bespoke solutions across a range of Human Resource issues across most business sectors.  The website, completed in late 2007, replaced a one page template based site that had been in existence for a number of years.  My activities included assisting with a transfer of domain registrars and web space hosts.

Illingworth McNair Insurance Brokers

Completed in late 2007, this is a replacement website for Illingworth McNair Insurance Brokers, a long established firm of independent insurance brokers based in Bingley, West Yorkshire.  The site incudes an extensive dynamic online enquiry facilities with PHP control and a small Customer Management System for changing content such a testimonials.  The CMS data is quite small and is stored in a simple file in the web space without the need for a database.  The visual concept was based on the output of another design house and so I undertook the task of turning the concept into a full working website.

Suspended Ceilings 2 Go

Suspended Ceilings 2 Go is a new suspended ceilings components and ceiling tile supply only company, but part of a family business with over 20 years experience of supplying and fitting most types of suspended ceilings into a variety of premises.  The site incudes online shopping which is PHP based and fully developed in house.  The system uses a MySQL back-end database and allows the owner to manipulate stock, pricing and product images from a web interface.

Kildwick Cleaning Services

Kildwick Cleaning Limited is is a family run company that provides daily office cleaning services and related cleaning and janitorial supplies to businesses and organisations in and around the Aire Valley in West Yorkshire, United Kingdom.  The website was created in 2007 to add the medium of the World Wide Web to the established promotional and marketing methods that Kildwick has employed since its inception in 1990.

Rapunzel Wigs

Rapunzel Wigs is a full online shopping website created in early 2007 for a new venture.  The site has a MySQL back-end database that holds product information and uses PHP to produce dynamic shopping pages with other contact and information pages.  The database can be populated using a web based interface and gives the site owner full and ongoing flexibility with regard to product availability, pricing and descriptions.  Although the shopping system is based on a freely available third party package it has been extensively modified to suit the look, feel and particular requirements if this business.

AA Van Hire - Van Hire, Van Sales, Van Transport

The AA Van Hire website encompasses four different businesses under one umbrella: AA Van Hire, AA Flexi-Fleet contract hire, Ashley Armstrong Commercials, light commercial vehicle sales, and Bradford Van Transport.  The Vans Sales business is supported by a small embedded PHP based Customer Management System to control the stock lists and accompanying images.  The data is stored in simple text files which removes the need for database support by the host.  Created over the Summer of 2006 I worked very closely with the site owner to produce the look and feel he required.

DeconSys Technology Ltd

The DeconSys Technology Ltd web site is a 2006 replacement of an earlier site designed by others.  It is fully compliant site with simple yet striking styling, in keeping with an existing corporate image, informing potential clients exactly what the company is capable of as soon as they enter.  The existing host server was already PHP enabled and so this facility was utilised by including a PHP based enquiry form on the contacts page.

Lower Fields Primary School, Bradford, West Yorkshire

The Lower Fields Primary School site went live in May 2006.  This is an ongoing project with the content gradually increasing as teachers, children and parents decide on what is required and the benefits that a school website can give.  Naturally this is a fully W3C compliant website.

Snowdens of Haworth

Snowdens of Haworth is Army Surplus and Outdoor Clothing Shop located in Haworth, West Yorkshire.  The site was born in 2000 to encourage visitors to the shop and for online sales.  Having gone through two major makeovers the emphasis has moved to eCommerce and the site is HTML 4.01, CSS and WAI compliant.

The current version, which saw the light of day in early 2005, was an experiment in fluid layout which includes a certain amount of image scaling as the page size changes.  Stock and pricing information is stored off site in an OpenOffice database and uploaded as simple files when changes are made.  With no server based processing available on the host, the shopping system is based entirely on client-side Javascript.

11th Keighley (Cullingworth) Scout Group

The 11th Keighley (Cullingworth) Scout Group website had its first showing in 2001.  The aim is to promote the Scout Group and to provide basic information and contact details to parents.  The basic format has not changed much since inception except to make it comply with HTML 4.01, CSS and WAI standards.

...... and in the beginning

In 1995 Eldon Technology decided it needed a website.  As "person in charge of marketing" with "software skills" I seemed to have the ideal mix for the job so I took it on.  And that was the start of my web design career.  The original site was basic HTML 4.0 and the background content proved to be useful for many years to come, not only promoting the business as a whole but also providing historical and geographic information of interest to prospective employees.

The Eldon Technology site had a series of updates over the years but ceased to exist in 2006 after the company's trading name changed.
